| - This review is specifically for the Mobility Plus service that is offered by the York Region Transit. Mobility Plus is a "door-to-door" shared-ride service for people with mobility problems due to visual, sensory, physical or cognitive limitations. This service is amazing and is busily in use. I am once told that Mobility Plus serves over 25,000 people. The service runs from 5am to 3am, including statutory holidays.
The MP car/bus has always been on time. More often, it arrives 10 to 15 minutes early. I find the cost amazingly low considering that it gets me to work on time everyday. All the drivers I have met are polite, friendly, considerate and efficient.
To use the service, one must ask his health professional, such as a medical doctor, physiotherapist, optometrist, etc,. to fill out a form confirming that the patient has a mobility issue. Upon approval, the patient can reserve transit services by calling a hotline.
MP is not a taxi service, as it works by advanced appointment, not on call. It has same day service, as the user can book up to 4 hour before the desired time, but the service will be subject to availability.
The cost of a single trip is same as the cost of one's normal bus ride, that is $3.75 cash. Regular users can use the monthly pass and 10-ticket book. Using the 10-ticket book, the cost of a single ride drops dramatically to $3 for adult, $2.3 for student and $1.85 for senior.
My experience with MP has been resoundingly positive.
