| - I know its dark in the theater for many of the shows, but really it's time to reupholster the chairs. Also, in this day and age, create a family restroom and an actual pre-show waiting area.
I don't know if the rain contributed to my annoyances being heightened that day, but the hour before the show was excruciating. We couldn't go to our seats until 30 minutes before the show, so all of the show goers were crammed into the waiting area like sardines with few places to sit. My 8 year old and I were unfortunate enough to sit next to another child loudly slurping off the frosting on a cupcake his parents bought for him (seriously, why would you sell cupcakes at a theater show?) and someone that had to keep passing gas. Lovely. I thought I was going to lose it. There was some side entertainment provided by the senior lady passing out programs. I call her the "Bathroom Nazi." Upon entering I asked the attendant that took our tickets if they had a family restroom as I was a female parent there with my 8 yet old son. In this day and age, I am not ready for him to go into an adult restroom without direct supervision and my husband was home with our infant.
The attendant suggested I use the handicapped restroom because it was a single, stand alone restroom. There was another lady in line in front of us who didn't visibly look disabled either. The "Bathroom Nazi" came over and told us if we were not disabled to walk up the ramp to the other restrooms. I explained to her I didn't feel comfortable taking my son into the ladies restroom and was not going to let him go into the men's by himself. (I understand that there needs to be a larger stand-alone restroom for the disabled and if someone were to come up that needed the restroom I would have offered to let them go in front of me.) However, for the next hour, the "Bathroom Nazi" reprimanded everyone that went to stand in line at this restroom and not once was there ever a visibly handicapped person that came to use that restroom! Although entertaining to watch, she really shouldn't take it too personally. She was just down right unpleasant.
Once we got into the theater, was when I realized the some of the seats were ripped and in need of repair. As many shows as Gammage puts on per year and all of the tuition they collect from the overcrowded colleges (yes, I am an alumni), they should be able to afford to replace the fabric on some of the chairs.
