  • Two months out of the year friends of mine rent a house within walking distance of Dillon's and after having walked there with them recently I had to wonder: Is Dillon's the reason they rent that house? The sun was still shining when we made our way over for dinner, hours earlier than I usually care to eat, but they knew the drill. Even early, the place was packed, with a live band playing in a semi-soundproof room off the bar. Dillon's gets that party started. We cadged a table in the bar area, bypassing those waiting for a table not in that area, then decided to just eat dinner from that locale which seemed not significantly different from the non-bar area. Dillon's was described to me as a place that everyone could find something they wanted and the size of the menu made that readily apparent. Their specialty may be BBQ but you certainly don't have to stay in that lane. I opted for a big bowl of chili (with burnt ends); it included a salad and the whole thing was under $10. A Brisket Platter with heaps of food was under $17. It's fairly impossible to leave here feeling a) hungry or b) like you've gotten ripped off. There's a reason Dillon's has a packed house as early as 5:30 p.m.: tasty, well-priced food and lots of it. It might not be reason enough to rent a house within walking distance but if you chose to I'd understand.
