| - If you know anything about the history of the cornish pasty, it's that miners used to eat it as meals; there's extra dough on the outside so that the could just eat it with their index finger and thumb - so that their food wouldn't get dirty (even though they themselves might have been dirty from the mines).
I know this because these mines originated in the U.P. (Upper Peninsula in Michigan); and I actually came with two Yoopers - my husband and his good friend. They grew up their entire lives eating pasties. Tough crowd!
What's the verdict? These pasties lived up to their expectations! We each got a different one. Mine happened to be Thanksgiving themed; filled with turkey, a wine gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. I couldn't have asked for a tastier pasty. We also ordered a Shepard's Pie themed one, and that had everything a hearty meal could ask for, lamb, potatoes, veggies. It was delicious!
The only reason I'm knocking a star is that the service was only OK. I waited ten minutes to get a drink, and our appetizer was brought out with our meals, which was definitely unusual. I understand we went during happy hour on a Friday, and they were short staffed, but still.
Overall, I would definitely come back again to get more pasties!
