Was in the Plaza area of town this afternoon so I stopped into Akahana for sushi. I was met by a young lady who had an upbeat, bubbly vibe. She was very professional & made sure I had everything I needed throughout my time there. I sat at the sushi bar and had nice conversation with one of the chefs, who is opening his own Akahana in Belmont soon. The thinly sliced fish in the prep station looked fresh and was very colorful. I had the Raging Demon roll & the special Stupid Cupid roll. Both had eel, which I favor and were tasty & thankfully, solidly packed so it didn't fall apart (pet peeve of mine when it comes to sushi). However, I always enjoy alittle fresh, chilled ginger to finish my meal but their's was tainted beige and browning on some edges. Now here's my primary complaint: the odor in there is nasty; That dirty floor, wipe-counters-with-the-same-rag-over & over again- kind of smell. Now, I know I'm somewhat OCD clean & germ conscientious & I challenge myself to tone that down. So I dug deep & stayed and ate but I prayed I wouldn't get sick all the way home! I know I can't be the only one who senses some slacking in cleanliness there. BOGO so I had two 8-pc.rolls for $15.00 + $6 tip (on the full amt., as is customary) = $21.00 and I was stuffed. Will I go back? Nope....no need to. Too many other, sparkling clean sushi places to visit!
3.5 out of 5 because the rolls were good and the staff was excellent. They just need to hire a new cleaning company to use some vinegar/bleach & steam that place from top to bottom. Or refinish and update the interior :- /
