| - I wanted to love it. I mean, it's cupcakes with surprise centres! But unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. It was good, don't get me wrong...but it wasn't great. I had a coupon for 6 cupcakes, so I made the trip in. I had a bit of difficulty finding it, but maybe that's just because I'm not familiar with Liberty Village. The shop itself was very cute, and showed the cupcakes well. It wasn't difficult for me to make my choices - Grasshopper (chocolate mint), rocky road, chocolate raspberry, PB&C (chocolate and peanut butter), salted caramel, and I had to try one of the mancakes - Guinness Chocolate. Amazingly, I'm not actually a big fan of chocolate cake, I usually prefer vanilla. I didn't realize until after I'd left that every single cupcake I'd chosen was chocolate.
I headed to my boyfriends with the intention of splitting them, because I knew there was no way I was going to be able to finish them all myself. I wanted to cut the cakes in half so that we could each taste them, but that proved difficult - the centre was much thicker than I'd anticipated, so it often came out of the cupcake with the knife. I would have preferred something more gooey, more like a lava cake filling. My favourite cake was probably the salted caramel, just because that's not something I've ever tried before. It was an interesting flavour combination.
A conversation with my boyfriend revealed that he hates chocolate and mint (I know, he's crazy). According to him, the mint overpowers the chocolate and blah blah blah... So I was especially excited to try the Grasshopper, to prove him wrong. But the mint in that thing just about knocked me over. It was awful! It was like eating toothpaste. I guzzled back about a half litre of milk after one bite. I gave it one more bite to redeem itself, but no such luck.
All the other flavours were good, but not great. I just didn't find that the flavour combinations popped as much as I'd hoped they would. I would give it three stars, but that Grasshopper unfortunately cuts off a whole star for me.
