  • I have wanted to throw axes in a controlled environment ever since hearing that it had become a thing. Hell...I have wanted to chuck axes my entire life, in whatever condition. With a Groupon in the GF's hands and in preparation for the new year and celebration of birth, we made our way down to Fremont. Located in what...I believe is the former "Neonoplis," it was an adventure taking a Lyft to LVBLVD & FERMENT, from the righteous brewery we had been chilling at before. Fremont seems a little crazier than when I worked on it...back in the day...in the '96. Once located after dodging a wayward street performer and wayward vagrant or two, or three, there was an exchange of information and waivers to be signed. We were escorted to our bay by a friendly attendant. She was knowledgable and kind with her instruction. She stood by after the safety brief and conducted a tutorial to make sure we got the hang of it. Once we could hurl some edged instruments consistently, she bounced out, but said she would be back. After becoming more consistent, she instructed us on games that could be played using a spray painted score zone a the hung-up log slab. The Gf and rolled into some competitive axe throwing, it doesn't matter who won this or that....the competition is with yourself....imagining you are a Viking chucking a sharp, wood chopping instrument into the forehead of your enemy. Points be damned!! In this intimate environment it's all about supporting yourself and those your have come to hurl sharp objects with....Period. This ain't league play. But I hear they have it it, if you want to get crazy. When the nice attendant returned after a quick couple of W's & L's...things ramped up Ninja style! Additional techniques of wood/human slaughter where taught. After some practice, those techniques married metal to wood. This was a first time experience. Is it five stars.......I don't know. It might be. Let me experience this a time or two at different locations, and I will absolutely right another review. Check it out!!
