I strolled along Water St to finally enter this itty bitty casino at the heart of Downtown Henderson. It's bigger than a Dotty's but smaller than a Fitzgerald's. However, gambling wasn't on my mind, it was coffee shop grub and I was hoping they would deliver the goods on a Hot Turkey sandwich or a Blue Plate special of some sort made from the remnants of the Blue Plate special that wasn't sold the day before.
The hostess was real friendly greeting me at the door. The dining space was spacious but felt very similar to one of those roadside diners that you might see on a long trip or in a half-lighted neon poster with Bogart, Dean, and Monroe. Yeah, that kind of joint.
I sat down at a very clean table with menu in hand and already a comment card given to me by the hostess. Now that's a way to ensure everyone is always on notice to bring your A-game. I asked about the special and they didn't have anything that sounded appetizing or mysterious or challengin to digest so I passed. I instead ordered my guilty pleasure, the Open Faced Hot Turkey Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes and a Diet Coke. Crystal was very friendly taking my order and she told me her name, I didn't have to glance-snatch it off a name badge. The food was yum to my tum and the her busperson was equally as friendly clearing my table and inquiring on re-fills.
I like the food and the service. I knocked it down one star because you have traverse the small casino floor which like all casinos is drenched with the smell of smoke soaked carpets and littered with tripping hazards like Oxygen tanks and the people attached to them. Seriously, I'm not keen on taking that smell out with me but it's inevitable. The exchange is that I got a great hot turkey sandwich and the world seems a tad brighter like the Wizard just gave me cuh-rij. Recommended.
