I take my Grandmother to numerous health care appointments over the year, so I am a seasoned elder caregiver/transportation/dr. visit expert. I called in advance to remind the office that my Grandma gets very antsy when she waits for too long in one room and that she has a form of dementia that creates a lot of anxiety. Ordinarily, medical offices are pretty accommodating and schedule first thing in the morn or just after lunch. We ended up waiting for more than an hour before we even got back to the exam room....then more time in a dark room when we got back for the exam. It was torture. The front desk girl was polite, but she was repeatedly apologizing yet didn't give us an estimate on time...there is really nothing to do around the complex....and had I known we would have waited over 90 minutes just to see the dr. I would have taken her to lunch or on a walk. Just disappointing that the communication isn't better when the Dr. is backed up.
