  • I was anxious to try SoulCycle, as I have read about it being "all the rage" in New York for a few years now. I love road biking, but did try spinning once a number of years ago and didn't enjoy it at all; I found it to be quite boring. As such, I went into my first class at SoulCycle in the mindset that I would probably hate it. Turns out, I absolutely LOVED it!!! I am a long time member at a boutique gym down the street, and can generally handle a pretty hardcore workout. And even then, this class pushed me to my limits. Just at the point when I thought I might puke, the pace changed and the focus was redirected to the upper body using the free weights stored under the saddle. (Peddling all the while, of course.) I cannot put my finger on why I found my experience at SoulCycle to be so much more enjoyable than my previous spinning experience, but my sense is that it has something to do with how the instructors engage participants. My class was led by Adam, who was fantastic. He pushed class participants without being "scary". SoulCycle emphasizes a strong sense of community, and the "vibe" in the room is really motivating. For those who might be intimidated to try this place (as I was), don't be. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly, and are available to help those who are new set up their bikes. The studio itself is absolutely beautiful. And spinning shoes are available for loan for those who need them. You definitely get what you pay for with this place. Thanks to SoulCycle, I've been converted. I now like spinning. Can't wait to go again!
