  • Grassroots is a small unassuming shop on Bloor St, a couple blocks east of Bathurst. I went in and was their only customer, but a couple people came in and out after me. The girl working was friendly and helpful, but not pushy. I lingered around, checking out their items and getting ideas how I could be more ecologically friendly. They have a great selection of cleaning products and personal care products. I honestly had no idea you could buy things like shampoo that was better for the environment. What I really liked, is they offer bulk refills of plastic containers!! Whoohoo. I have yet to find anywhere else that offers bulk refills for laundry detergent and household cleaners. Grassroots also sell a selection of aluminum based tupperware (high priced but then again I haven't seen similar products cheaper elsewhere...I just find the idea of paying $30 for one tupperware dish a bit much...). I was curious about their reusable snack bags...but what they ended up being was organic material sacks. Not terribly exciting and other than the natural fibres, something I could pick up anywhere. What else...there is a selection of Patagonia clothing, baby clothes, linens and stationary. I really like this store. I felt like...this is a place to buy things and feel good about it :). All I ended up buying this time was reusable produce bags (only $1.99!). I'll come back for sure, most likely for their cleaning products.
