  • I'm giving them 5 stars only because the store is good, but has the potential to be GREAT! So, what would be normally a 4 star rating, I'm lending the 5th one knowing that they are still a work in progress and because of their fantastic customer service! My rating will stick, when I see that their selection of live plants increases (hint...hint.. Vanessa). They opened up at the end of June / early July 2012. Anyway, for those of you Arizonans that knew about Pet Inc. in Tempe, some of the friendly staff got together when that place closed down and opened up their own new spot. My GF and I had the opportunity to pay The Pet Shop a visit and were impressed at how clean the store was (well it's new, it better be). I know it's still a work-in-progress, we were delighted to find a lot of goodies there in terms of fish, decor, etc. They need to step it up a bit in the live plants area (as I mentioned), but the owner assured me that they are in the near future when it's not so boiling hot to get plants shipped safely...LOL They had some pretty neat finds that you wouldn't find at the big box pet stores. For instance, they had some awesome "BB" dwarf puffers, peacock gudgeons, mosquito rasboras, a good variety of cichlids, and other various fish (FW & SW). They also have a great selection of malaysian dw! All at great reasonable prices! Anyway, the owner, Vanessa was awesome and very friendly. Mat was their resident "fish guy" and he was pretty friendly and knowledgeable as well. Great place, check them out if you're in the area! Edit (9/10/12): Okay... they've earned their stars! They definitely up their game on the plant selection. Picked up a nice healthy pot of Dwarf Baby Tears and Flame Moss which was hard to find in other stores. However, I'll be honest and still admit that Aqua Touch still has the best selection of FW plants that I've seen in AZ. But don't pass up the Pet Shop because their selection of flora and fauna are still darn good. Now on to more of my observations... Although they have a great selection of Malaysian driftwood, I would like to see them carry Manzanita driftwood as well. I was delighted in my last visit to find some Galaxy Rasboras (aka: Celestial Pearl Danios), which are pretty hard to find in the hobby. They also had some Peacock Bass which are some of the most voracious cichlids you can own. It's always neat to run in to those not-so-common finds... Stop by because you'll never know what you'll find!
