| - This was a little excursion I took with my best friend. Of course we had to sample all manner of appetizers and wines, because that's what best friends do when we're together. Plus we had almost the entire dining room to ourselves, so the service was impeccable.
The calamari was fantastic and came with a side of marinara. Amy would only eat the rings, but I ate the full small calamari and thought it was great. She said the little ones with all the tentacles freak her out. It was lightly breaded with what seemed like partially cornmeal and crispy fresh. I debated that the small ones were more tender. We then divided the plate so she had all the rings and I have the tiny tentacles, and we were good.
The fried zucchini blossoms stuffed with goat cheese was my favorite. Amy doesn't like goat cheese, so I ate them all quickly and efficiently while she munched on mussels. We both enjoyed the artichoke hearts, and the lemon sauce was light and complimented the dish nicely.
Next came the special, a buffalo mozzarella with fresh arugula and tomato. This was also very good with a sweet balsamic, but there wasn't much of it, so it went fast amidst our conversation about "what if they made cheese from milking buffaloes". Our server wasn't terribly impressed, but she was sweet and gracious. And more wine ensued...
Amy is a fan of Merlot, and picked up a bottle. I like Riesling. I like a sweet German Riesling to be exact. They had my second favorite on tap, Chateau St. Michelle. It's crisp and sweet and was pleasant with our selections. It was a fun night with great food and fun conversation. I will absolutely be back.
