Was really looking forward to dining at Craftsteak since I have watched Tom Colicchio on several TV shows and had yet to dine at one of this restaurants.
We had a party of 3 and we ate rather late so reservations were not a problem. We were promptly seated when we arrived and were greeted by the waiter right away. When the waiter took our order he was very thorough in describing the menu although he paid special attention to the highest priced steaks which seemed to be a bit of up-selling. My group did not want to roll out of there so we decided to split the 32oz Porterhouse. We ordered individual salads; I had the Roasted Baby Beets which I really enjoyed; one friend had the Caesar Salad which he said was the best Caesar he ever had; my other friends had the Spinach salad which was just Ok. We also ordered sides of White Corn Grits, Hen of Woods Mushrooms, Asparagus and a bottle of red wine, to share.
All items we are were good but all were lacking salt. I asked the waiter for salt and mentioned that I felt everything was under seasoned. The waiter said nothing and brought me a salt shaker. I expected the waiter to take some action based on my comment. Proper seasoning is one of the most important aspects of cooking and for the waiter to discount my comments without any recognition was disappointing.
I will say that the Brown Butter Carrot Cake was outstanding. I would go back for just that desert and to be honest that would be the only reason I would go back.
