These guys know their stuff. Alex, the owner, is friendly and efficient, the bakery smells like heaven, and god, you can taste the quality in every bite and the prices are super great. You could get cheap ass flat tasting half stale factory made (and tasting) cellophane wrapped crud from a gas station for nearly the same price. I don't even know how she does it. BOYCOT GAS STATION PASTRIES.
It's a cute little out of the way shop - it took us a few pass bys on our first trip down town to find it, but it's so worth it. Her apricot tarts are unbelievably lovely - perfect blend of savoury and sweet, no hint of tartness. Her apple pie tarts are really well spiced with flaky crusts that FLAKE instead of *fall apart all over you*. Her cheese scones were still warm when we got them, and they were moist and lovely - you could taste the quality of the butter in them.
We've since taken the kids to this bakery, and we will do so again. It's a great location - grab a bite, then head to the sit down park on 17th ave and chill. Next time I'll make sure to bring a thermos of coffee :-)
