Took my niece and parents to the zoo. My parents had not been there since they were in elementary school! Needless to say...quite a change!
Logistics...parking fills up fast, so if you have difficulty walking, go early or later so you can park closer.
The zoo is really mapped out well. It sort of feels like a journey through the different types of animal habitats. Many different species of animals within the regions they've mapped out along the way. Impressive to see that they are living and relaxing without appearing to be contained in cages as days of old.
There are a number of refreshment/concession stands throughout if you need a snack.
Be prepared to walk...and a bit uphill if you do not take the escalator. It can be a trek...however, if you need assistance it is available.
Favorites for the visit? I love the monkeys, gorillas and orangutans. The aquarium is pretty cool, too. The penguins! We didn't encounter that day, but there is an adorable penguin parade on certain days as well as other special exhibits.
Check out the zoo on a trip to Pittsburgh or as a local with a season pass. Great for kids, families, adults all the like.
