| - We came to Umami for an earlier dinner, which was nice because it beat the crowd that was to follow. We were able to find street parking (although you may want to just check the lot first) and were quickly seated inside.
Our server for the night was very helpful and attentive, and really answered any questions we had being first timers to Umami. I figured I didn't need my own bowl of ramen, so my boyfriend and I ordered pork buns and dumplings to share, a umami mushroom arugula salad for me, and lastly a big piping hot bowl of ramen for him.
For the food, I have to say that the pork buns were delicious and trumped anything else I tried. If that's the route you want to go, then I may recommend checking out their food cart here in Madison. The dumplings were okay, but didn't stand out as much as the pork buns. My salad was good.
But the real reason people come here is to try the ramen. Overall, I think the ramen was good but was just missing some flavor. We are far from ramen experts and I'd love to try some of the other options on the menu. The bowl was pretty large, so I am glad i went the hodge podge route and ordered a few things to share.
I've heard the brunch menu is amazing, so next time that might be the route we take to try some of their other dishes.
