| - We were already in Vegas and wanted to extend our stay one more night - the hotel we were currently staying in wanted $250 for another night so we decided to search for something cheaper. The Palms came up as an affordable choice last minute (around $80) so we booked it.
For the price we paid, I think the Palms is a great hotel to stay in. We're not high-rollers or party-people but I really enjoyed my stay. Of course, there's good and bad:
The Bad:
*Far from the strip. A cab trip will cost about $10-15 so I suggest you go to the Strip & stay the day or plan to spend a lot on traveling back and forth. Too bad there's no monorail trip to Palms/Rio.
*Rooms in the Palms Tower are not fancy...sort of like a Hilton/Hyatt style but I hear rooms in the Fantasy Tower are much nicer. It didn't matter to me since we were only staying one night & if you plan to be out most of the time then it shouldn't matter either.
The Good:
*Very friendly staff - checking in & out were really fast and easy. I didn't have to wait either time. Plus, we booked online for a standard room and they upgraded us to a Junior suite. Sounds fancy but it's not...just means you have more space in your room with chairs & couch but that was still nice of them to do for us, considering it was only a one night stay.
*Food court & movie theater in hotel! The theater also has IMAX so that seems like a plus if you want a break from gambling or you want to entertain kids. The food court was also nice because I don't want to spend a fortune on every meal. They have McDonald's, Panda Express, Nathan's, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, a pizza place and a frozen yogurt place too.
*Room was clean - bathroom was great! I hate a dirty, old bathroom but here they were very nice. They offer Aveda products (love that!) and also had a little package of Gillette products for men including hair gel/putty and shampoo.
*Nice view of the Strip from our room - we were on the side with the pool as well (also really nice). We were not going to pay for Internet but I guess our room was close enough to the pool area that we scored free Internet from there. =)
*Not too crowded or overly smokey in my opinion. I saw others felt it had a lot of smoke on Yelp but I've been in casinos that are a lot worse. I also like the fact that it's not completely flooded with people and that I can walk about freely.
Due to our short stay, we didn't really get to try out the restaurants although N9Ne came highly recommended & I might try to check that out next time. Overall, I'd stay here again - it's a pretty good option for me since I'm not a fan of crowds but it's pretty accessible to things on the Strip.
