| - I came here with high expectation because of Yelp and I gotta say, it was quite disappointing. The service was good. The server women were extremely nice and quick.
Then came the food. I ordered the Kogashi Ramen ($8.20) which supposedly has good amount of garlic flavor or whatever because of my love for Monta's Kuro Ramen aka black garlic. The bowl was smaller than Monta's, good presentation. The flavor was nothing garlicky or full of aroma like I expected. It was good broth, very peppery, but not good enough. I didn't like the noodles. The SUPER weird thing that I HATED was the addition bean sprout, though it was my fault for not fully read the description. The broth flavor was completely overwhelmed by the bean sprout for me. Extremely tender and flavorful Chashu but the pieces were wayyyyyy to small, almost seemed like they disappeared into the noodles.
My friend got a Fukumimi Ramen ($9.50) and it was the most disappointing bowl of noodles. She got it because it said "extra Chashu" but turned out, she got way less meat than I did. Extra means more than 3 but she got exactly 3 pieces. Maybe they were way too small in size that they weren't significant enough. The broth was okay, nothing notable. To be honest she disliked it. I didn't think it was worth it for the price or the way they described it on the menu. We didn't want to compare this place to Monta, but even the people who were sitting behind us mentioned about Monta in their conversation so...
We also got Karaage Chicken which is Japanese fried chicken. It was supposed to be an appetizer but we got it AT THE END of the meal. I was annoyed. But I thought it was okay, but a little over-salted. They used dark meat that's very tender. Very good coating. The thing is, they had like a pile of overdressed salad with very liquidy dressing so it soaked the fried chicken pieces. The chickens were soggy after a while. I don't think the addition of salad was necessary because why???
Overall we just didn't enjoy the restaurant as much as how I anticipated it. I get why they have the stamp system or the "eat 4 ramens get a free appetizer" to attract customers but it just didn't work for me. Everything was missing a notch of goodness to get to that level. Monta is still in the lead by a huge margin. This place is still improving but I won't be around to see the improvements.
