  • I'm new to Arizona and moved to Buckeye, AZ. Unfortunately there isn't much for a selection when it comes to a gym over here. I found EOS over in Avondale and gave the 7 day trial a shot to see what the gym was like. I've heard mixed reviews about this gym so my expectations were kind of low. I first spoke to a "Sales rep" who gave me a tour of the gym. I told him what I look for in a gym (good barbells, good benches, power racks, spot to deadlift, etc) and seeing as I train for powerlifting I am pretty biased towards commercial gyms. I unfortunately came at a time when the gym was insanely crowded (it was a little after 4:00 PM). So right off the bat my first impression was horrible just given how crowded and cluttered the gym was. After the tour the Sales rep state me down and talked about prices and what they offer for memberships. Prior to that he tried to get me to sign up without even training here. I told him i'm not interested in signing up and need to get a feel for the gym first. After going over memberships he again tried to ask if I wanted to sign up again. I declined and told him would he buy a car without test driving it? The answer is obviously no. He then said he can talk to someone about getting some sort of deal on the initiation fee (which was $99!) since he couldn't do it (sales tactic). He brought a manager who spoke to me and said he can sign me up for just $1. Again after several attempts I declined their offer and told them I just wanted to get a feel for the gym. I've not lifted in this gym twice. Once was at peak hours like I said above. I then went in the morning around 6:30 AM and figured it wouldn't be as crowded. Well unfortunately I was wrong and the gym was still crowded. Based off my training this gym really doesn't suit me. The barbells are some of the worst i've seen in a commercial gym (everyone of them has absolutely no knurling), the benches they are are slim and have absolutely no grip so expect to slide around on them. They do have three squat racks(1 power rack and two squat racks) but good luck trying to use them with a bunch of douches curling in them. If you do get a chance to use them make sure you claim it right away or else if you turn your back it's gone and taken. Again I may be biased but I wish more commercial gyms actually cared about the equipment they carried in their gym. Now they do have a good selection of machines (hammer strength) which is nice for accessory work. Dumbbells go up to 125lbs (which is ok but wish they go heavier for heavy DB rows or shrug work), they have a section for GPP/conditioning work but it's in an awkward spot. You are right in front of a bunch of cardio machines and it just seems like an awkward spot to be huffing and puffing for air while you have a bunch of cardio bunnies in front of you. Their cleanliness is pretty bad. Both times I've seen a bunch of used paper towels just lying around on the floor in the gym near plats, benches, etc. I'm definitely not going to be signing up at this gym and will just focus on piecing together my home gym. If you're serious about strength/powerlifting type training stay away from this place.
