| - I have a lot to say about our recent experience with Baker Brothers, so bear with me.
We were in the market for laminate flooring and ended up working with Rob at the Paradise Valley location. He helped guide us to the appropriate brands and series of laminate for what we were planning to do.
The price was competitive with what we found elsewhere, but working with Rob is what made the difference and earned our business.
He was willing to loan us sample pieces to take to the house to see the designs in the actual environment where they would be installed. He also came out to take the measurements and brought more samples then as well. He was very easy to work with and acted as more of a consultant than a salesperson.
The installers were fine and did a good job. They were local guys, one of whom owns his own installation business and contracts almost exclusively with Baker Brothers. I'd read some reviews of flooring companies where reviewers say you should try to find one that has their own installers vs one that contracts out the installation work.
Well, aside from just about every store contracting out the installation, the work the contractors did was just fine. It's their business. It's what they're licensed to do and experienced doing, so no surprise they know how to do it pretty well.
There were a couple pieces missing from the order, which was a factory error not theirs, which they had to come back and finish up at another time. Baker Brothers handled the scheduling for us, so it was all taken care of.
As with every vendor and contractor we've worked with in recent years, the job will not be flawless from start to finish, so what matters is how responsive and communicative they are and whether they are able to resolve problems and get it done in a way that works for you.
Everyone we worked with at Baker Brothers nailed that. That's why this is five stars. At the end of the day, we have a floor we are extremely happy with and the process to get there was pretty painless.
Specifically, Rob helped get things resolved with the missing pieces and coordinating with his scheduler and the installers to come back on a day that worked for us. The installers did a good job with the installation and the customer service installer, Dan, who handled the installation of the remaining pieces, was awesome too.
It turned out that one of the final pieces that is used in a unique location wasn't quite the size and shape we all expected it to be, but Dan came up with a creative solution on the fly that looks as if it was how the factory intended it. And he got there by asking questions, proposing several creative ideas, and just generally being an experienced badass with custom flooring (I believe he said he's been installing with Baker Brothers and its predecessors for almost 20 years).
I think the biggest thing with any aftermarket product installation is that you also have to be flexible and reasonable, too. If you can't be available for installers or you have crazy expectations, it'll be hard for anyone to please you. I could easily see someone like that, given the same experience we had, leaving a lower rating than I am. But if you treat people well and work with them, I'd expect you'd end up with just as much satisfaction as we have with our laminate flooring from Baker Brothers.
