Ok. Let me start by saying that the atmosphere of Olive & Ivy is gorgeous! I will take you through our meal so you know why we didn't love this...let me also disclose that my opinion made even me sad! I started off with a glass of white wine. I got the Chenin Blanc. The wine was delicious BUT it was wayyyy too warm. Having such and extensive wine collection, they should have known to serve more chilled white wine. I could have said something but I didn't, so that is my fault. Every table gets fresh bread and pesto. This was probably the highlight of the meal. It is seriously DELICIOUS! We decided to start with the bacon wrapped dates, recommended by our server. They were...ok. The dates were a bit too smokey and needed more of a salty element. Even with the chorizo and bacon, I found them to be much too sweet. They also had some greenery that was unnecessary. For my meal, I got 3 of the bruschetta. Great concept! You can choose 3 flavors for $12. Sounds amazing right!? BEWARE. The menu discloses GF and Veg. Again, this was MY FAULT but, the menu didn't list all of the ingredients and all of the bruschetta options have cheese on them. I don't eat dairy....so, I basically suffered through my entire meal. The brussels sprout option was 100% the best. The mushroom was pretty good and the prosciutto was less than impressive, unfortunately. My sister got the scallops and said they were pretty good and cooked perfectly! They come with 5 as well as some hearty butternut squash puree. There were chunks of squash that she said were a bit overwhelming and a bit rich. They were missing depth and needed a bit of acidity.
Overall, this wasn't a BAD meal but we were expecting a lot more. I would try it again but I would be much more cautious of what I was ordering and next time I will probably ask for more chilled wine.
