| - Cozy little place in The Beaches I should have visited sooner. The Pie Shack has a rustic atmosphere, with wooden tables, comfy chairs, and little trinkets relating to nature- the best things were the cuckoo clock and the life-sized stuffed stag (not taxidermic I swear!). It's a small place and when I visited (a Thursday afternoon), it wasn't very busy. I assume it's busier at certain times or days of the week.
The owner is very hospitable and really makes you feel welcome there. His pies are delicious and while they are a bit expensive (myself being a student, $6 for a slice and $2 extra for ice cream is a bit steep), the portion is worth that of two slices and tastes delicious. I opted for a slice of cherry pie with some vanilla ice cream and it was definitely worth the $8. Plus, the fruit makes you feel like you're eating something healthier, right? Other pie flavours there included: raspberry (I heard the owner say this was his favourite, I'll have to try that next time), bumbleberry, apple cinnamon, peaches and cream, and strawberry rhubarb.
I think I'll have to visit here on a cold fall day, and also check out the location that just opened on Annette.
