RESIST THESE SCAMMERS: I had gone to return something at the consumer-laden mall in SF on 5th Street and on my way out, I was grabbed by a guy with an accent who put some cream under my right eye without even asking. "Can you guess where I'm from? No one can!" I guessed Brazil because he knew how to spell my name. It happens that one of my books has been translated into Brazilian Portuguese, I have some Brazilian fans and a lot of Brazilian women have that name. "Oh! I love literature! It is SO good to read!" (All the while putting stuff on my face.) And then: "I wouldn't push this product if you hadn't just had such AMAZING results. What do you use? Obagi? I've never heard of it." (Really? It's one of the few systems prescribed only by doctors. ) "I simply can't afford 700 dollars," I said to him. "Oh, I know! Writers don't get paid. But this will last you for TWO years and then you won't EVER need anything again." Something for $200 was then offered free with $100 off one of two other products if I bought both of them. I got out my phone and began to read reviews. His face sank when he saw so few stars and he called over a colleague who said: "They don't know anything." I left with a big hug and two little samples. The stuff he put under my eye turned to sand in a few hours. DON'T GO NEAR THEM.
