  • Despite the store's usefulness when one needs MC specific tools, generalized customizing parts, some tires/tubes parts, fluids ect, the madison Cycle Gear continues to drift; with a fair number of employees who don't really know much about motorcycles or the motorcycle aftermarket and who seem to lack motivation-I feel like there is one employee left (a girl) that actually knows what she's doing and I haven't seen her lately.... While I'm sure that most people simply use the internet to shop for stuff that isn't stocked in dealerships or MC stores like Cycle Gear, trying to order anything from the Madison Cycle Gear is painful beyond belief and unreliable on top of that-don't use them if you need a part for a race 2 weeks in the future, there may not be followup if the part doesn't arrive in a timely manner (Yeah, I stupidly trusted them and ended up day before an endurance race grinding the gap in a stripped shift lever down so it might work for 3 more hours...shoulda called CG a week earlier to check on my order)- Anyway, They simply don't know how to order things and don't know the catalogs the way people used to-I generally have to help the "young adult" behind the counter find the things I want by reading upside down as they flail about, after advising that they might want the Parts Unlimited *Dirt* catalog, not Kuriakan USA for that brake disc kit for my MX bike. They also offer tire mounting service but can't seem to get the job done in 3 days despite the fact that it's the middle of winter and they have three squidish employees sitting around, apparently doing nothing. They also have a serious problem with inventory at this CG. I have three dirt bikes and two street bikes that run tubes and I basically buy out most of their 21" 18" and 19" HD tube inventory by spring or early summer and then they are out, seemingly for the rest of the year. Bizarre-I mean those are obscure sizes, right? My guess is that Cycle Gear can't/won't pay enough to get anyone with a clue to work there-instead you get part timers who appear to mostly care about their employee discount (perhaps so they can afford flashing under body lights for their clapped out F3s?). It's too bad because they are around the corner from me and they do (or at least could) offer a valuable resource in terms of their selection of fluids/chemicals /tools/custom parts/tires and the inexpensive tire mounting service (supposing they don't scratch my rims...I don't know yet cuz it's day 4 and they still have not called to say my wheels are ready and it's March 6th and it's snowing so don't fucking tell me you're busy with customers like you did when I dropped them off, only there weren't any customers just your squiggly friends). I say all of this with the sincere hope they get their shit together at this CG because after all...they are right around the corner and I do need them even with all of their flaws...cuz these days, the nearest dealerships are actually much worse.
