  • Horrible service. A group of 5 professionals who were in Tempe for a training and decided to rent bikes for an evening outing. Knowing that we would be short on daylight, we did the prudent thing and made a reservation for 4:00 the next day. They asked for a credit card guarantee which we obliged. When we arrived the next day around 4:15, the bikes were not ready. After 25 minutes they had one bike ready to go. Then we asked if there was any paperwork to fill out while we waited. After another few minutes they started the paperwork and asked us for a $2000 in deposits for the bike. They had not informed us about this practice when making the reservation and only one person brought their wallet and we did not want to stick him with a large charge on his credit card. With daylight fading and no prospect of getting our bikes on the trail in a reasonable amount of time, we told the shop we would like to cancel our reservation. After some discussion the manager informed us he could not refund the rental deposit of $190 for the five bikes. Telling him this was not acceptable, we were offered to speak with the owner the next day. After contacting the owner, she asked an hour or so to speak to the shop. She refused to call my colleague back on his cell phone due to the long distance charges she would incur. After contacting her for the second time, she refused to provide a refund. Needless to say the credit card company is refunding the money and they will collect from Tempe Bikes on my colleagues behalf. Truly horrible service. I can't imagine looking a customer in the eye and refusing to offer a refund in this situation. The shop was clearly unprepared for our rental and had not offered full information when making the booking. In the end they had not incurred an expense on our behalf and are simply trying to gouge people. I would fear they would try to take part of your deposit without cause based on this behavior. Beware of this place!
