Cheesecake: 4 stars
I have tried the original at a friend's place and it was pretty good, but if I wasn't told it was a cheesecake, I would have never guessed that it was one. It just tasted like a softer and fluffier version of typical Asian sponge cakes. However, I was at Shops on Yonge and decided to give them another try. I purchased the chocolate cheesecake (apparently chocolate and coffee cheesecakes are made in limited quantities each day) and I liked it much better than the original. It was SO fluffy and had a good chocolate flavour without being overly sweet. There was a subtle cheesiness to it that was just right. Packaging is also nice and simple with a classic touch. Would like to see them explore with more flavours in the future!
Ambiance: 4 stars
Small shop for take-out only. Cutely decorated with tiles with adorably painted characters and odd bits and pieces mounted onto them. There's a small glass fridge with boxes of their cheesecakes ready to go. Love the interior design! Wish they had a dine-in area as well.
Service: 3 stars
The guy at the counter was nice, but he made me feel a little rushed even though there wasn't anyone else in the shop. Maybe they were closing soon? I wanted to enjoy the adorable wall decorations but by the second time he said "hello, how can I help you?", I felt obligated to turn around and pretty much get my cheesecake and get out. The baker or owner in the back gave a big friendly goodbye as I was leaving, which is always an appreciated gesture so 3 stars for him!
