| - oh, my.... where shall I begin?
one word of advice, when going to multiple car dealerships, make this your first stop and not your last BECAUSE YOU SHOULD WALK AWAY TO LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU DON'T NEED/WANT THEM even if they give you a seemingly good deal. no matter what they say. walk away and come back, if you want to come back.
the mistake I made was giving myself only 3 days to car shop before I had to move on with my life.... time constraints were the only thing that made me give this salesperson, Mike Bara, my business.
Please be amused by some of the bullsh*t lines I was fed, staring at him in disbelief and thinking to myself, "Are you f-in serious?"
Here we go:
"It looks bad to the bank if we go back and forth with negotiation".... um, no it does not... your finance department makes money off the loan by charging a higher rate. it doesn't look bad to communicate with the banks and negotiate. please don't insult my intelligence. look bad for what, mike?
"Its only one point on the interest rate. its only one percent difference".... ok, if its only one percent difference, how about you pay that 1%? little did he know that I briefly did mortgages in the past, in ultra competitive Long Island, in an all male environment reminiscent of the Boiler Room. a half of a percent can make a huge difference in a loan, 100s to 1000s to 100,000s of dollars, depending on loan amount... please don't use the phrase "its only x percent".... if that's the case, you pay for it. a loan calculator will give you very exact numbers in less than 5 seconds.
"all dealerships add the aftermarket fee (of 1400 in this case). every car dealership does that".... are you serious? no one will ever believe that. do you really think the people you deal with are that stupid? just because someone doesn't call you a liar, doesn't mean that they don't know that you're lying. why don't you say its a charge that your company sometimes employs (in reality, sometimes tries to get away with) instead of falsely claiming its some universal standard. people know that you're lying. you're not a good salesman, you're a sh*tty salesman. You don't lie well, you lie heavy. There's a difference.
"I'll fight for you".... really? to whom and for what? you are there to make you (and your employer) money. you are not a case worker, a crusader, a marine, or a criminal defense attorney. you will not fight for me for anything. you'll fight to get money in your pocket. there's nothing wrong with that, we all do that... but if you want to feign otherwise, its a little nauseating. again, do you really think that the client/customer is that stupid? please refrain from saying that ever again, you have no idea how bad it sounds.
"I'm on your side".... Similar to the last quote. No, my dear, you are not. we are on opposing teams. never is the used car dealer and the purchaser on the same side. its a dance, its a negotiation. you are trying to maximize profit, I am trying to get the cost down as low as possible. We can act with civility and good sportsmanship, but never once are we on the same team. you are not on my side when it comes to this transaction, and I don't expect you to be. Again, that line sounds so low and false and unauthentic. Please, refrain from saying that garbage.
"I don't think we can call the bank directly".... of course, we can. I have a relationship with that bank, and I spoke with them prior. I called them directly, upon stepping out, and unfortunately they were on east coast time and very closed. Of course we can call the people that I already spoke with and am in good financial standing with for multiple lines of credit. Can I not call my mother directly either?
Having said all this, I am extremely happy with the car thus far. It's only been a few days. I just wish that this otherwise attractive and eloquent salesperson would learn not to estimate who they're dealing with... he was very transparent and the overdose of BS makes me regret who I purchased the vehicle from. Everything in moderation, please, Mike.
