| - I just don't understand how this restaurant had such good reviews. I went with 4 colleagues (one of whom is my wife) tonight (Wed. night) and just about everything about this place was terrible.
We were originally a party of 10, but due to a whole lot of problems, we went down to 5. We told the restaurant ahead of time, but somehow they still put us at a large table for 10. No one could hear each other talk. Half the restaurant was empty and we asked them to move to a smaller table but they said they were all reserved. After enough complaining, they moved us, and not a single one of the tables filled up at any point during our meal (we, more or less, closed down the restaurant side of Nola).
We ordered red wine which came hot. Not warm. Hot. We trudged through the first bottle figuring this was a fluke, but when the second bottle came, we had to ask to put it on ice for a while to cool it down. Where are they keeping these, by the oven?
The appetizers were actually okay. The fried artichoke was tasty and the lamb ribs were flavorful. The raw oysters however were chewy and bland...a sure sign of them not being fresh at all.
No one liked their entrées. I had the Creole Tartiflette and it was way too creamy. Imagine a big bowl of heavy cream with some potatoes in it. That's the Creole Tartiflette. My wife had the scallops, which the waitress pushed. Imagine bland Mac & Cheese with 4 scallops on top. Two people got the jambalaya which was nothing special. And one person got something else, which I can't recall right now.
For dessert we had the bread pudding, which was okay and the beignets. Has the chef ever been to New Orleans? The beignets were tough, not soft and fluffy like they should be. They clearly left them in the deep fryerfor a bit too long.
This restaurant failed. If you want the New Orleans experience, buy a plane ticket and skip Nola.
