  • I could go so many ways with this review. Honestly I have had some real challenges flying United, and I do not mean just weather related issues, because I 100% understand when weather is an issue, there is nothing anyone but god can do to get you where you think you should be. I used to be a Silver Elite status traveler with Continental before the merger. I remember how pleasant it was. Here are a couple of my issues with United: -The staff seems miserable. So bad that the last time I was flying (no weather issues) the cabin crew was curt and annoyed with the simplest of questions. I warmly said "WOW, you guys must be having a tough day" - And the response was a tirade against United, because she was a "Continental Employee" who got screwed in the merger. Not even kidding! I could go on and on with other grumpy United employee stories, but you get the idea. -In cabin entertainment. WTF is going on here?? One plane you had to pay to watch basic TV, another had free stuff on your iPad or phone, but ONLY if you had the United App, and yet another totally free on demand. HELLO!!! Pick one? Just one! Make a choice and standardize it! I am going to stop with this negativity, I have a LOT of friends who work for different airlines. I know they work hard, I know they deal with whiny customers. I am going to try to not be one of them. Now on the flip side...When coming home for the Holidays, I got trapped due to weather issues. The airport staff were telling me it could be 2-3 days before I would be able to get home. My family is 3.5 hours away from the airport. I was not happy. I asked the gate attendant to get me ANYWHERE there was not snow. He tapped away at that computer, and excitedly told me if I hustled, I could get as far as Houston tonight. YES!!! - As I was jogging to the gate to get the plane to Houston, I was booking a room on Hotels.com. Success! And I made it home the next day. 18 hours of traveling, but I made it. And it was thanks to that one employee who tried to make difference! And I was thankful! So here it is good and bad all rolled up into one big underperforming airline. I know it is a hard job shuttling 1000's of people around, I know that there are a factors out of United staff control, but I just wish they were a better airline. One that flew with pride, like Continental used to. That is really it for me. for the most part, the staff is just doing their jobs, not loving their jobs. And as a frequent traveler, I really feel the difference between the staff from United and it's competitors! And that is why United is my least favorite choice for travel.
