How do you rate a beautiful piece of Cleveland history and architecture when you know damn well it's not living up to its potential?
Well, you'll have to meet me halfway, here. Have you actually stood in the Arcade and just looked around you? I mean really absorbing the sights and nostalgic feelings it emanates? It's mesmerizing and breathtaking. I love this space more that I can express and I think it could really be something spectacular as far a business or mall.
Now, have you looked around at the businesses actually residing here? I think the only two places I've been and appreciated is the seamstress/alterations stand and the shoe repair--that's it. Oh wait, I've been to 1890 as well. It didn't leave much of a lasting impression besides the great view of the St. Paddy's Day parade.
Parking is hellacious, but then again, not many people are coming here. I have to agree with reviewer Mike M when he said that he can see a bunch of little shops and treats here. But I would add some local boutiques to this as well. We have tons of outlets in CLE to grab local eats and produce. I say we need more boutiques--and some that are priced like they're in Cleveland, not Manhattan.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for the day that something awesome is done with this gorgeous space. Until then, I'll keep visiting here to get my clothing altered.
