  • Maybe this is a bit of a homer bias since I've lived near Yorkdale for a half my life. I have seen the transition occur before my eyes. From the time the mall had Dominion, Carole's Cheesecake Factory, when the cinema had three theatres and expanded to six (which I worked there) and had a Kresge. The subway was detached from the mall and before that, buses parked in the parking lot outside of Dominion. Yup. That's way I remember from Yorkdale. Now Yorkdale has raised the bar each time there has been an expansion. Everytime there have been threats from more suburban malls like Vaughan Mills and Promenade, the mall owners came out swinging. Now with this latest expansion, the food court had moved from its original location near Holts and now in has been rebranded as Dine on 3, with additional, more upscale options. The mall also is about to have its own mini Rodeo Drive with such shops as Holt Renfrew, Burberry, Cartier and Louis Vuitton. The mall also has an outdoor presence with Joey's, Milestone's and Pickle Barrel. They purposely but the entrances on the outside facing the 401 for marketing. Retail know how I'll tell you. For transportation, not only do they have an parking indicator for availability, but also an app to display how much parking is available. I think all that is left to do is renovate and modernize Bus Terminal, but that's the job of GO Transit I believe. I can go on forever describing the transition, its present state, and future expansions, but I will leave it to the other Yelpers to judge.
