  • Pekara is my favorite bakery in Champaign-Urbana. I believe they have the best desserts available in this area. However, their savory, non-dessert items are some of the worst food I've ever had not just in CU but anywhere. For example, their quiches are otherworldly... And not in a good way. Something about their specific flavor profile of olives and eggs and spinach and mushy crusts reflected poor thought in product development. Their crepes are tasteless and sad. On top of that, I think the food is laughably overpriced for its taste and quality (desserts here are worth the price though). As an amateur baker and lover of baked goods, I think there is no competition when it comes to their confections. Also, 1000% agree with the other reviewers: most of the staff are very rude and, well, lazy and cannot be bothered to walk more than a few steps to help you with questions or anything else. They act like being there is sucking their souls out, which might be true, but probably best not to make it too obvious.
