  • I found a used 4runner online located at Centennial Toyota back at the end of November, I rushed down there as it was exactly what i was looking for and the price was right. The salesman was Jay Bakarji, he was great. Got in and out in about 2 hours for a price I was happy with. Love the 4runner. Shortly thereafter a check engine light popped up, Jay told me to bring it in and they would take care of it. I purchased it 'as is' as it was an older 4runner with crazy low miles. So I expected to pay for part of the fix as part of their 50/50 1,000 mile 2 month warranty. I didn't make an appointment and it was a busy Saturday, it didn't even go back to service as a service writer read the code and said the gas cap hadn't been tightened. So they cleared the code and I was on my way. About a week later the check engine light popped up again and since Centennial is so far from my house i took it to Findlay as I have a 3rd party warranty and I felt it couldn't hurt to have another dealership take an unbiased glance at it. Findlay came back with a grocery list of fixes totaling about $3200. 3rd party warranty wouldn't cover it as they claimed pre-existing which it would have been so i was a little frustrated. Felt like maybe my deal wasn't so good, but hey if Centennial will pay for half, i still have a great car that i love. So fast forward I take it back to Centennial, service writer Eddie Frank. He was very accommodating letting me know if there are problems he would see if Sales Department would cover full cost, which they didn't have to. So after discussing items that Findlay claimed were faulty Eddie explained they would look at my car but the items described sounded like typical, normal wear for a car of my age. He showed me toyota literature detailing the conditions described by Findlay as normal wear and in good working order. After the mechanic assessed my vehicle, they found faulty parts causing the check engine light but also found items that Findlay said to be faulty actually in good working, normal wear, condition. Eddie said that Centennial will cover full cost to replace parts causing check engine light. awesome! I had a similar experience with Findlay a couple years back with my wife's Camery; they printed a book of fixes totaling about 12k and told us just to get rid of it. We fixed a few hot items for about 1200$ at local shop and the car is still running great. All in all, i don't think i will ever go to Findlay again. Service is a huge money maker and i felt like they were trying to get me to fix perfectly fine parts.
