  • I have been to a few of the Michoacan restaurants before. I feel it is safe to say Bonita Michoacan is my favorite. I came here with my family last weekend while they were visiting from out of town. They were told of Bonita Michoacan by a waiter they met at an IHOP who also works here also. We were seated quickly upon arrival even though it was a Friday evening and we were a party of five in this busy restaurant. We did not have to wait long before chips and salsa were brought out. Then we were also brought the sopa de fideo as is customary at the Michoacan restaurants. As were were looking over the menu and munching on chips, we saw another table which had ordered the fresh guacamole. We thought it looked good and ordered it too. I'm glad we did. It was chunky, creamy, fresh and just the right level of spicy. That was a nice way to start our meal. For my entree I ordered pollo al cognac. One bite and it quickly became my favorite chicken dish any where. The plate was huge as was the chicken breast though I could not really see the latter. It was a large breast grilled to perfection while maintaining tenderness then smothered in a sour cream sauce with mushrooms, onions and a touch of cognac. I am a sucker for sour cream and mushrooms so this was just awesome. I would go back and order that again for sure. There are only a few small things I take issue with at Bonita Michoacan. They are the margaritas, the salsa, and the sopa. At least on this occasion. I ordered a house margarita and that is exactly what I got. My issue with it is that it taste like a premixed syrup like the ready made stuff in the grocery stores. It is very sweet and I don't care for that. The salsa was Ok. It had good spice but then there was a bitter after taste. Possibly from dried chilies being used. And finally the sopa was kind of salty. I realize it is soup and soup is salty. This was just a bit much for a couple of us in my party. Aside from those things that I'm just nagging about, this was a primo spot for dinner and we were all glad we tried it out.
