  • It's been awhile since my last foray into the deep dark recesses of Rockwood + Grass. Hidden from the main drag hustle and bustle of King Street West's Entertainment district, this spot is where my friends and I come once every 6-8 months when we want to relive our younger days and just stop and stare at the cornucopia of likely underage, fake ID using OR newly 19 year old population which frequents this place. It's a real shame that the 21 and under crowd have claimed this spot as their own as its three element themed levels are expertly decorated right down the finest detail to represent their motif. I feel that if the youngin's hadn't infected this spot like a zombie apocalypse it wouldn't give off the uncool vibe for us older peeps like if Andy Dick had just walked in (Family Guy Reference). The main floor, ROCK, is dark, dingy, and truly you feel like you're partying in a cave or ancient castle basement. This floor seems to have the most room, but it's also the most packed on any given night. And let's be serious, If, at my age, I'm going to pay $20 to get into a joint like it's an all ages nightclub event, I'm certainly not packing myself in here with the rest of the plebs. Again, my point remains, less children = this floor regains its cool factor. Moving up the stairs, oh did I mention that with 3 floors the only way up or down is via stairs... yep. Not totally cool when intoxicated and wanting to descend from Grass to Rock - ya I never thought I'd use that in a sentence in my life either. Now on level 2 also known as WOOD. This is a cool spot to hang out if you can get here early enough and secure a good wall spot. I like the wall to wall hardwood floors and the floor to ceiling hardwood floors. Also the wood block seats are cool too. It's a tad tough getting to the bar here as you MUST cross the dance floor to get there. Again arrive early and avoid this issue entirely. Less young ones here those who are here stick to the dance floor, (this club seems to age as you move up). Last and certainly not least GRASS, my favorite level and one of my fav roof tops in the summer. Astro turf patches, grass huts and plenty of faux greenery abound this place is where its at. More of a lounge style set up, music is great and the bar is long and able to serve a ton of people. Definitely worth a check in and party it up. One thing I will say is that the crowd seems to be a touch less pretentious than other Mercer st/King West Spots.
