After returning from the few months I spent living in France several years ago, I've been on the hunt for a decent baguette in North America. I've tried the baguettes at various grocery stores and independent bakeries, but I've always been disappointed.
I was hesitant to try COBS, but after walking past it on a regular basis and catching a whiff of the fresh bread, I was finally persuaded to go in. I was pleasantly surprised! This is the first bakery I've found that's come close to matching what I enjoyed so much overseas.
Let's just say, at least half the baguette didn't survive the two blocks back to my apartment.
