  • Wow, how low can they go? I was interested in a VW they had on their lot, as their website showed two of the color I was interested in. After several emails back-n-forth, I decided it was worth the two hours drive, as they listed the car at $4,500 off sticker. The salesman I had an appointment with wasn't there. A young inexperienced salesman was taking his place. I wasn't sure why he was leading me to a cubicle first, as I wanted to see the car. He was asking a lot of questions and I finally stopped him. I asked what the purpose of all the questions are if I don't like the car? I had to start walking out in order for him to show me the car. All my emails had been aimed at one model, one color. I had told the salesman I would be driving there to see that specific car. When I asked the salesman helping me where it was, "Oh, it's on another lot lot. I can have it brought here if you want". Seriously? To me it was a ploy to keep me there and wear me down. Why wouldn't the car that I had been asking about for two weeks, and the salesman said "come down and take it for a test drive", be there? So I opted to look at another one of the same style. The Camelback sticker had over $3,000 worth of extras listed on it (paint/fabric potection, $5 plastic door gaurds...). This was included in the "$4,500 off sticker" price listed on their website. He seriously tried to justify it. Pretty comical. Turns out a VW I like, other than the one I traveled down to see, was at another dealer. I asked if he could get it for me, as that one doesn't have $3K worth of junk on it. He stated they would have to install it before selling it, asa that is their policy. My policy is to leave. He tried to get me to stay to talk with a manager: there were several behind a counter, just BS-ing amongst themselves. Uh, no. Anyone shopping for a car: check eleswhere! I have bought several new VWs and never paid for any add-ons. Other dealers are more ethical and responsible, find one! The whole experience was a throwback, and a reason why sometimes car dealers as referred to in a negative way. Their tactics of misleading advertised prices is certainly unethical and perhaps illegal. Hopefully it lead to their closure.
