  • SALT RIVER VETERINARY SPECIALISTS Salt River Veterinary Specialists is owned and operated by Ale Aguirre DVM, DACVIM. Ale Aguirre, DVM, DACVIM, is an Internal Medicine Specialist and earned his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Anthropology at Stanford University. He attended veterinary school at Cornell University in New York. THE STORY Ok, enough about Dr. Aguirre... Let's talk about what's really important: Princess Baily!! As most everyone in the world knows, Princess Baily is the cutest 5 pound teacup chihuahua on Earth and also happens to be MY chihuahua. I took Princess Baily in to her dentist/oral surgeon, Dr Wilson, for her teeth cleaning and he noted a 3/5 heart murmur. Significant enough that he referred her to Dr. Aguirre at Salt River Veterinary Specialists to have an evaluation. Upon chest x-ray, substantial cardiomegaly was visible and Princess Baily was referred to a cardiologist, Dr. Church. Dr. Church did a 2D echo and put her on oral medications. Although there were some cardiac improvements after medical treatment, Princess Baily still had some persistent breakthrough coughing and hacking. So I took her back to Dr. Aguirre for a re-evaluation and fluoroscopy. Obviously, Princess Baily is JUST as adorable on the inside as she is on the outside, but with 50% blockage on her trachea at the thoracic outlet (not enough for a stent) and her massive left atrium which is pressing on her lower bronchi, she has significant lower airway disease. (with PMH of Mast Cell Ca which was treated surgically & Epilepsy which is being treated by Dr. Plummer) So, Dr. Aguirre added steroids PO to her medicine list. But why am I writing this review and sharing Princess Baily's private business?? TWO REASONS 1. Everyone who's anyone has asked about why Princess Baily was at the vet specialist and expressed concern for her. So, to those WONDERFUL people - THANK YOU! Although she is NOT okay, she's still the cutest dog on Earth and my little girl and your good vibes mean a lot to us. 2. The most important reason for the review: Dr. Aguirre actually took time to call me at home to check her progress on the steroids and to show his concern and compassion. Let me say that again: Dr. Aguirre called at 6:00 pm to see how my dog was doing. WOW!! CONCLUSION Dr. Aguirre is the kind of veterinarian I want looking after my animals!! Thank you Dr. Aguirre! 5/5 Highly Recommend Salt River Veterinary Specialists and Dr. Aguirre! OF NOTE *The office is a bit hidden within the office complex and the entrance is on the south side. *There is plenty of parking out front.
