  • Affordable, filling, unique...this is the place to hang out after some late night gambling and strolling on Fremont Street Experience. The small quaint store is located inside the California Hotel on the top floor. It's not a place to be missed with its bright open French doors and some "outside" seating. I ordered the local plate consisting of teriyaki beef& chicken, rice, mac salad, and musubi. I also ordered a side of coconut haupia for dessert. The teriyaki sauce was plentiful, sweet, and savory. It pairs wonderfully with the marinated beef, chicken, and white rice. Next comes the musubi which is basically nori wrapped around white rice slathered with teriyaki sauce and spam. Despite the simplicity of this food, the sweet teriyaki sauce and the saltiness of the spam with the rice combines wonderfully. Additionally, the crispy nori yields a snappy crunch as you bite into the soft warm rice. Next comes the mac salad which is macaroni mixed with celery, mayo, and carrot shreds. The mac salad is creamy, sweet, and cold. It's a surprisingly delightful contrast to the main course and provides the warm and salty tongue a rest. At last comes the coconut haupia (by the way, I'm filled to the brimmed with food at this point). The coconut haupia has an interesting jello/pudding texture and oozes of coco-nutty aroma. The sweet and creamy dessert is extraordinarily light even though it was made with coconut milk. In conclusion, this place is worth a visit for a taste of simplicity, warmth, and no-frill home cooked Hawaiian meal.
