| - Come for the food, not for the service or ambiance.
The food is good, though inconsistent. Here's an exchange I heard on my visit:
Costumer: Is this chicken supposed to be cold?
Server: No
Customer: I don't want it.
Server: Ok.
No apology. No attempt to make amends. This breaks every rule of a service business. There's little regard for the diner. The server and a few other people seemed preoccupied at the bar even though there were only two tables dining. It shouldn't be difficult to get the server's attention where there are only five people eating.
As some other reviewer's have noted, the place was absolutely dead. It was so quiet, it made us uncomfortable.
That said, the food is pretty good. My chicken--and yes, I did order the chicken anyway--was cooked well, and was warm-ish. It wasn't undercooked, but it was clearly (partially) reheated. The injera was the best part of the meal, and the vegetarian options are quite good.
Pittsburgh desperately needs a good Ethiopian, particularly now that Abay is gone, and Tana could be that place. It's just not there yet.
