| - If you've stayed here before, READ THE RECENT REVIEWS.
MONDAY: Valet took 45 minutes when we arrived. When we finally were able to register, there was a HUGE line. We waited roughly another 20 minutes, so over an hour to even start registration. That want well with the exception of the resort fees not being explained. Since we told them we had stayed here 2 years before and there were none then, that's not something that should've been missed. I also don't see the point of a resort fee for the internet and pool if you don't use them (we didn't). We ended up with a Strip view suite on the 37th floor, which was nice (their club is on the roof, so you'll be able to hear music). Considering that you're off the Strip, the view is ok. The bellman belongs at the Bellagio.
TUESDAY: Valet was an issue our entire visit. Today it took 30 minutes for the car to even be received. Due to that, when we were on our way out to go to a show , I called down to ask that our car be brought up as we made our way down. The person on the phone proceeded to speak to me in a way that a staff member should never speak to a guest, getting on me about my Total Rewards Member status, which I honestly did not know. He ended the phone call by telling me that I BETTER tip the valet well. We always took care of them anyway, but that was incredibly out of line. When we reached valet and I turned over the ticket, the moment he realized who I was, he launched into another out of line tirade that shocked us both (she hadn't heard what he said on the phone). We walked to the car stunned and decided to not let him ruin our night. However when we returned, I called down to the front desk to speak to someone and was told to call back in the morning after 6am.
Early in the morning, I had a medical issue and needed to call for the in house EMT. He was amazing and he even checked on me the next day. I have an anxiety disorder and panic attacks mimic cardiac issues and can be terrifying. I was having one of the worse panic attacks of my life. While the EMTs were tending to me, security was there and I realized later he had gone through my things, including opening the (there were things open that neither of us opened). He didn't engaged with me at all and the EMTs found no signs of drug use (I hadn't done any). He also found nothing. But that was so rude and I found out later from the front desk staff that he didn't have the right to go through my things. He should have been fired (I've since read other issues with security here). I did mention to her that I wanted to be moved to another property and she told me that I needn't worry about valet or security.
WEDNESDAY: I called down to speak to the front desk and after I relayed what had occurred the night before, I was asked to come down to fill out an incident report. While I was there, she told me something interesting. She said people often complain, but rarely fill out incident reports, meaning that problem staff stays on until they have enough evidence to fire them without fear of a lawsuit. For everything that happened, she felt a $30 credit was enough to make up for it. I returned upstairs and we were both hungry, so we decided to go to the Hash House A GoGo only to find that it was closed. It opens at 6a and closes at 1p except on Sat/Sun when it closes at 3p. We went to the All American Bar and Grille.
To say the service was slow is an understatement. The food was passable and our server was ok, but the length of time it took for us to get our food was unacceptable. The $30 credit didn't even handle half our bill and we only ordered entrees and non-alcoholic drinks.
THURSDAY: At the exit there was a car that had been in an accident and the driver abandoned it. They didn't move it where it could have freed up traffic, but just left it there to make exiting harder. It was just being towed out when we returned several hours later. And again, valet took entirely too long to retrieve our cars even though we always let them know we'd be going out again.
FRIDAY: While checking out, I spoke with the manager (her tag said Hotel Manager) and explained that I wasn't happy with what had happened or the way it had been handled (the original person I spoke to was then on vacation). All told, they only comped about $90 total for security and valet getting way out of line to a repeat customer.
A few of the reviewers are lying to make The Rio seems better than it is. Why, I have no clue. Unless you are used to low end hotels, you will not be happy here. What it was before means nothing. What it is now is a disgrace to Vegas and Vegas hospitality. Make another choice.
Edit: Ever since I posted my review, I have gotten a bunch of nasty messages disguised as compliments. My guess is that they are Rio employees or friends of the valet I had an issue with. Goes to show what kind of operation they have here. I've never had this issue before with any other business.
