I haven't visited Toronto in a few years and this was the last stop after Defqon1 and Oslo.
Originally planned to see the Bud Light Digital Dreams but the lineup wasn't working for me. Meanwhile I miss Neutral and other Gawth friendly joints that have closed down since 2014.
First time here. The DJs sounded interesting from the under promoted FB page. My bartender reminded me of a *nice* Kat Dennings, then again Canada in general seems like a much nicer civilized version of the USA (and I'm sure they are sick of that comparison).
I don't know for sure which vodka I had in my mixed drinks but it was tasty and I'm used to consuming it in larger quantities (pints) so I threw down several rocks glasses in less than an hour. Well, sort of bad idea because I wasn't dancing, I was still jet lagged, and I had run five miles early that morning. Result? I started falling asleep while waiting for the music to morph into something I recognized (or even *shazam* recognized).
I didn't necessary want to hear Worlock or Headhunter for the millionth time but I was hoping for something (anything, maybe even Chrome from VNV and I hate that song) from the usual EBM/Goth/Industrial/Alternative set. The crowd seemed to be the usual followers / club denizens of that sort of music but the soundtrack was different. It was kind of like going back to watch an episode of your favorite TV show and they changed it to something generic to avoid paying royalties, e.g. Laibach in an episode of Alias.
I tried dancing at some point but just couldn't get completely into it. The music wasn't bad, just not what I'm used to. Probably would have stayed until closing had I gotten more sleep beforehand..
Just out of habit, because I used to work in a bar I was going to say goodbye to the bartender when I got a chance. She asked if I was alright because I did nod off a few times while seated. She mentioned a viking ship exhibit that was at the docks, which was funny because I just left Oslo and ran out of time to visit their Viking Ship Museum.
I left about an hour or so before closing so I don't know if the music changed from the electronica / dnb / cybergoth fare. There was also a belly dancing show in the main room for a bit.
Next time I visit Toronto I will go to this place again if there is time and I set aside more money for drinking. (Really could have used another one but Smoke's Poutinerie was the next stop).
$5 cover and $6 mixed drinks didn't seem that pricey to me.
