| - Friday night, need a sushi fix, live on the westside. Hmmm. Heard about Takamatsu, so thought we'd give it a try. It's in the strip center on the northeast corner of 43rd and Dunlap. It is a Korean BBQ restaurant which also has 9 or so Japanese dinners, and a rather limited sushi menu.
Hubs and I had a Royal California Roll ($5) which is a deep fried CA roll, a Crunch Roll ($8.50): shrimp tempura, cuke, avocado, crab salad and tempura batter outside; a spicy tuna roll ($5) an eel roll.
($6.50), and saba nigiri sushi ($3.50)
The rolls are all average size, and were quite tasty. Better than Sushi Koi and Mr. Sushi. Finding decent sushi on the west side, south of Thunderbird, is almost a miracle! My husband had the spicy tuna roll, and said the tuna was minced, and he wasn't too crazy about that, but really enjoyed everything else, as did I. The crunch roll was warm all the way through which was nice. The saba had a good flavor.
The waitstaff are all very friendly; English is a challenge for some, and we felt our server was somewhat inattentive, but someone else took over.
Not outstanding, but hit the spot quite nicely. On the west side, beggars can't be choosers. We will definitely return to Takamatsu.
