I just went here for the first time tonight, albeit for Winterlicious and I have to say I was less than impressed. In fact, I would say that the cuisine was bland and basic. If this was 1998 I may have been more impressed but in 2013 I'm expecting much more especially at $100 a person (and that's Winterlicious prices!).
The beet salad was bland and predictable. In fact, I had a better one two weeks ago at the Crush wine bar for $12 and a show stopping one in Niagara with candied beets and quail egg for $15 that would knock this chef's socks off because it actually included effort in its preparation. The polenta was simply full of parmesan cheese, that's it, nothing more interesting. The accompanying mushrooms were bland. The striped bass was bland and predictable. The organic chicken was better and was the highlight of the meal but still rather bland. The chocolate cake was a joke, anyone with access to Youtube could make that and the accompany gelato tasted like frozen water with flavour i.e. not gelato. The "cheese" cake was another joke, it tasted like silken tofu with a few berries on the side. The term cheese was severely misused.
All in all a waste of time and money. Our wine choice was the best part of the meal and even that was botched in that it wasn't the bottle we ordered but the one underneath. As they hold your bottle for ransom they didn't even keep my glass filled.
You'd be better off going to Crush Wine Bar or pretty much any other reputable restaurant in the city for far less money than this place. The atmosphere is nice and it's posh but if you're looking for good food go elsewhere!
