  • Visited mid-May 2010. Stayed in Premier Tower, with king bed, 23rd floor with mountain view, and "Strat Select" service. Paid $48 plus $7 tax plus $8 resort fee, equals $63 total for one night. Pros: Room was clean. Free tower admission with room key. Nice looking pool (but we didn't visit this time). They offer a topless pool (free for ladies, $10 for men) but we didn't visit this time due to weather. Cons: Terrible web site that is makes it hard to compare choices. 20-minute check-in process. Nothing fancy about this room. Looked like a nicer Super 8 motel than a well-known Vegas hotel. Out-dated, but clean bathroom. They say you get what you pay for, and in many respects this is true. However, my brother stayed at the Golden Nugget the week before, spent less money, and got a nicer room that's closer to more things to do. On the other hand, I don't think it's worth it to spend $500 a night at the Wynn. What could be worth $500? I made the mistake of paying for "Strat Select" service which includes a turn-down service, a chocolate on your pillow, setting the temp to a comfortable level, and turning on jazz music, and turning the lights low. They visit your room and do this between 6-8 p.m. Sounds sexy, huh? When we returned to our room at 9:30, there was a chocolate on the pillow. The lamp was on (it can be either on or off). There was no music. And the temp was the same 70° as when we left the room in the first place. So I guess I paid about $6 for two quarter-sized chocolates. For the price at Stratosphere, you can't expect too much. But I must comment on one serious flaw: a dry bath mat on the vinyl bathroom floor is EXTREMELY SLIPPERY, and I learned the hard way. Heading into the shower at night, I stepped on the bath mat and slipped, barely catching myself by quickly grabbing the shower curtain and door which happend to be open. My wife screamed out, Oh Shit! when she heard what happened and needed to know if I was okay. I could not believe how slippery the cotton mat was against the vinyl floor. The next morning, even being aware of the problem, I slipped again! while trying to be careful! So I called the front desk who put me in touch with a supervisor (who didn't seem to care) who put me in touch with one of the assistant managers who also didn't seem to care. I invited him to come to my room to see what I was talking about. He said it wasn't something he deals with, and instead offered to send the housekeeping floor manager and security. The manager continued to tell me that he was aware of the problem and that next month (June 2010) he was remodeling 900 rooms' bathrooms which would help fix the problem. This of course made me realize that they are aware of a slipping problem, yet did nothing to warn me (no signs, no flyers, nothing). So that is obvious negligence. And the Strat should be ashamed of itself. House keeping and Security came to the room. I invited the house keeper manager to grab a bath mat, throw it on the floor, and see what I was talking about. She agreed it was far too slippery. Security seemed bothered by the whole ordeal, wishing instead they were spending their time on a robbery or murder or something. Frankly, I was just trying to do the hotel a favor and let them know that eventually someone was going to slip and fall and crack their head open and then sue the pants off the hotel. But nobody seemed to care. Bottom line: Cheap price. Clean room for the money, but NOTHING fancy. Don't visit with high expectations. Oh, and be extra careful in the bathroom.
