  • Great place! Had a big work party booked but only half of the group actually came, so the staff let us all fly twice -- each entry into the wind tunnel is an hour long, so that's two consecutive hours of flight for ten people. Our first instructor was Nathan, our second was Tyler. Both were very chill and supportive; you will definitely feel safe in their hands if they're the ones who take you up, though I'm sure the same is true for anyone working there. I felt that Nathan was quite soothing and in control, and that Tyler's grin was reassuring in much the same way as a dog's wagging tail, which I *absolutely* mean as a compliment. It's clear that everyone working at iFLY is skilled and enthusiastic about sharing a little taste of this sport... although, as they say, this isn't like doing a simulation; this is the real deal, you're legit falling into 80-100+ mph wind. There's nothing quite like it; the closest feeling is the example Nathan gave us, of sticking your hand out of the window on the freeway. The wind seems to both push and pull at every bit of you, and a few of our group said they even forgot to breathe at first. It is overwhelming in the best way. (Also, a braid or bun would not be amiss for anyone with long hair. They have a little container of hair ties at the helmet counter for your convenience. I did a simple ponytail and ended up with a mad mess of tangles. Worth it, though.) The hand signals are simple, and if you still aren't positioned quite right the instructor will just grab and move you, haha. If you aren't a coward like me and you choose to do the high flight (just $10), the consensus in the group was that you personally have little to no control, but the instructor will make sure you have a blast. At the end of the hour, the instructors jump in for some solo flight to let loose and show off a bit of what they can do, and each time it was just awesome. They move through the air with grace, confidence, and obvious joy. You'll definitely feel your inexperience watching those maneuvers... and hopefully feel a thirst to learn, too. All you have to do is pay attention to their directions and give yourself over to the experience. Relaxing is literally a rule in the wind tunnel! As far as party accommodations go, the room we rented out was perfectly serviceable. The fridge was well-stocked with drinks, the food and utensils were all laid out and easily accessible, the table was the right size, etc. It was the level of correctness that makes compliments difficult and criticism impossible, you know? Everything was just right. :) Also... at the tail end of our time there, a patron from another group seemed to be having a crisis. I don't know the circumstances of their upset, but I noticed several of the staff members being comforting, attentive, and sympathetic. They're lovely people and they are dedicated to giving everyone a positive experience. You are in truly good hands at iFLY.
