| - BEWARE OF POLICE SPEED TRAPS! But before I get into that....I live near the Lake Las Vegas area now, but I did stay at the Westin prior to my move. Overall, the hotel and rooms are nice, and if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the strip, then you may like the Westin....but keep in mind, this hotel is about a 30 minute drive from the strip, so this is not the place to stay if you want to experience the excitement of Vegas. As for the police, most visitors to the Westin (and nearby Hilton) will be taking a small stretch of road called the Lake Las Vegas Parkway. The POLICE HAVE SETUP ELABORATE SPEED TRAPS on this road. It is not uncommon to see several motorcycle cops, and patrol cars, working at the same time as a wolf pack, pulling over multiple cars on this very small stretch of road. They can be there all hours of the day and night. They usually hang out at the traffic circle on Lake Las Vegas Parkway (that intersects with Grand Mediterra Blvd) ...and once you pass the traffic circle (heading towards the Hilton and Westin hotels) you usually can find more cops hanging out at the next two stop sign streets (first stop sign intersects with Strada Di Villaggio Drive, and second stop sign intersects with Via Antincendio). My suggestion would be to drive a couple of miles under the posted speed limit on this road, and PLEASE BE ADVISED, YOU NEED TO COME TO A COMPLETE 3-4 SECOND STOP AT THE STOP STREETS.... ANYTHING LESS, AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU A TICKET! The bottom line is, the Westin is a nice, Non-Vegas, quiet resort getaway....I would give it 3 1/2 stars.....and I would probably upgrade it to 4 stars, if the police were not frequently harassing motorists in the area.
