Original Cheesecakes: I've been to different Uncle Tetsu locations in Toronto and the original cheesecake here does not seem to taste as good - like it was lacking the cheese flavour. I also felt discouraged to buy the original cheesecake while I was in line when I saw 2-3 workers break apart a cheesecake and analyzed it in the open kitchen. The young girls seemed to have found an issue with one of the cakes, perhaps whole batter (?) and literally took their hands to open up the cake and looked through it. After a minute or two of discussion among themselves one of the girls tossed the cake in the garbage and proceeded to other duties. I thought to myself, should I be worried? Why perform this examination in front of a line up of customers?
Ice Cream: I previously came to try their ice cream that came in a cup. They were disappointing. Since they were pre-scooped and packaged in the freezer the whole cup was frozen. They were so frozen that it was difficult to scoop through and lacked in flavour.
Non-baked cheesecakes: The sakura cake looks pretty attractive on IG but we didn't want to pay $35 for a large cake when we weren't confident how it actually tastes. We're glad we only went for a small one, which came in a cup similar to the ice cream. We tried the Yuzu and Sakura. If you're a fan of yuzu, you'd like it because it has the yuzu peels on top which bursts with flavour as you bite into it - it was a bit too strong for my liking. As for the Sakura, I wasn't sure what to expect it to taste like, maybe flower scent? But no, it had no scents nor special flavours to it - it tasted like a non-baked cheesecake with flowers on top as decoration...disappointed.
I do like Uncle Tetsu's original cheesecakes but I wouldn't come back to this location. Also, I enjoyed their matcha red bean madelines I've tried at their Dundas location, but the above experiences I've had here was not that great.
