  • My rating is 3.5 stars. I am reluctantly rounding up. I did a staycation in my hometown. First, it feels like a fun getaway and makes me figure out a section of Markham that I don't hang out that often. Second, my stay here gets me renewed as a Gold Elite member for 2018. I checked in on a Friday evening. The woman at the front desk cheerfully greeted me. She provided my room cards (it helps to check in though the app) and gave me a pack of dark chocolate-covered blueberries. Nice! Some Courtyard locations give you a voucher for free breakfast to Gold Elite members. This one does not. I got a decent room and enjoyed either stretching out on the couch or bed as I watched TV. Saturday night was a bit noisy. There were kids running up and down the hallway. At around 22:00, all running had ceased. The bed was comfortable. Except for Friday night, all other nights that I was there were peaceful. This room cones with a mini fridge, and a coffee maker for coffee and tea. I didn't spend Wednesday night at the hotel. On Thursday morning, I got a call from the front desk, indicating that housekeeping had advised that "nothing" was there. I said that I had some items in the room. I got the call while at work, doing training. The woman called again saying that there was nothing after housekeeping had checked again. I had to to indicate that I had at least a bottle of Diet Coke and hand cream on the nightstand. Yes, I was interrupted again while training a new colleague. I actually had to reassure her that I would be there that evening. I appreciate their concern. However, I have paid for my entire stay there. Chill a bit. I got to my hotel room that evening and noticed the following: - All lights were on. All because I wasn't there for a night doesn't mean that you need to bump up the energy consumption at the hotel. - The doors to the closet were wide open. Why? To prove that you did an unnecessary search and can't shut the doors? - My half-consumed Diet Coke remained. However, my hand lotion and clean, unused napkins from my last meal were tossed out. - Both the bars of hand and bath soap were tossed out. Such a waste, especially since I was still a guest. I wasn't thrilled with this housekeeping drama. It is what it was. There is plenty of parking, as this Courtyard shared the same parking lot as the Residence Inn. The lobby had popcorn and citrus-flavoured water, which was a nice, welcoming touch. Guests enjoy hanging out downstairs. There are plenty of couches and seats to mingle. (253)
